Prudential Financial, The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, NJEA, top law firm McCarter English LLP and Verizon have joined forces to help New Jersey Reads launch the first statewide public awareness campaign for literacy, launched on Wednesday, October 11, 2006.

Dr. Randall Pinkett and Dennis Bone, President-Verizon New Jersey at the recent launch of "Change a Life Through Literacy" campaign.

Creative spots produced for TV, radio, various print and digital media have been produced by Zero-to-Sixty, which has signed on as the probono agency for the literacy campaign.

‘Change A Life Through Literacy’ is designed to increase public awareness about low literacy.  As one of the top critical social issues facing New Jersey, messages highlight the need for funding and support to the many programs that provide literacy services to citizens.

New Jersey Reads has awarded nearly $225,000 to literacy nonprofits engaged in direct literacy instruction since 2003.  However, annual requests total more than $1 million. By expanding exposure and knowledge about low literacy, New Jersey Reads expects to inspire greater citizen and corporate involvement and increase financial support to literacy programs statewide.
